So lately you’ve been noticing people hash tagging #VSCO or #vscocam on their Instagram pics and you have no idea what the hell they’re talking about but you like it anyways – because duh and because they better like your shit back!
Anyways, if you haven’t googled it yet, VSCO is a free photo editing app that will take your photos from Kim Kardashian BK (before Kanye) to Kim Kardashian presently. No but seriously, your days of Valencia and X-pro are OVER!
VSCO is your new fave app that can make anyone look like a professional photographer. Though you’ll probably only be using it for the filters here’s what you need to know.
Kinda Like IG But Not Really
When you make a VSCO account you have just taken your first step to creating your VSCO journal. So like Instagram you can post your pics on here but tbh what’s the point unless you’re actually a photographer ? You can’t like pics on VSCO but you can see what presets and edits we’re used blah blah blah you lost me at no likes.
Saves Pics in App (not camera roll)
Naturally, your camera roll takes up 90% of your iPhone’s storage and you’re in a daily battle with the “Not Enough Storage” message that pops up every time you want to take another selfie. Luckily, VSCO knows what’s up and understands the struggle so when you take pics using VSCO cam they save to the app not your phone! You don’t have to take pics with your VSCO cam though – we all know the best selfie angles are taken with Snapchat anyways – so you can upload photos from your camera roll and apply filters as needed. Which bring us to the most valuable part of VSCO…
Presets aka Filters
The best thing about VSCO cam is the presets. Basically these are filters grouped together because they are similar in style. If you’ve never noticed, you will notice now but people who have VSCO cam tend to use filters from the same preset group of filters so when you look at their IG page all their photos are consistent and blend well together because they are the same style. Some of these presets are free where others are like five bucks.
Just click on the menu button and click on shop to browse through the preset options.
Here’s an example of one of my fave’s
So basically we’ve learned that Instagram filters have essentially become obsolete and if you’re not using VSCO cam your FOMO must be on overdrive.
- It’s free
- It has better filters
- Now you can hashtag #vscocam like everyone else
