a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.
Now ladies, we literally all do this. This gem of a video basically mimics what #GirlsBeLike when posting a selfie on Instagram. Here’s what we learned from this video:
Use Snapchat for Selfies
So if you don’t know this by now you must be living under a rock or don’t care about taking selfies which means you’re over 30 years old and probably my mom. Mom, stop reading my blog.
Anyways, probably the best thing about snapchat is the way it takes selfies. Not sure if you’ve noticed but when you take selfies with your phone it automatically flips your face like as if you were just looking in a mirror. Why? No idea. But snapchat is smarter than almost every other app I’ve ever downloaded (except Instagram) so they cut the crap. When you take selfies on Snapchat they just look better and don’t flip your face – trust me on that! Oh, and they have some pretty sweet filters as well so you might as well add that selfie to your story while you’re at it.
Always Get a Second Opinion
Again, I’m sure this is common knowledge but since you’re like SOOOOOO pretty and just took like 57 amazing selfies you can’t choose just one and you’re not about to photo collage a bunch of your selfies because that’s just awkward.
See even the Queen of selfies says it herself! (this woman has her own book of selfies – just saying)
Pro Tip: Don’t post 5 selfies in a row let alone one right after one another – like within minutes. Shout out to people who still do this – I just want to comment on all 5 pics with “www.instacademy.ca”. They need help, real professional Dr.Phil, Oprah, Judge Judy, Kylie Jenner HELP! Even if you look up the definition of selfie on Google they will tell you:
“occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself everyday isn’t necessary”
Anyways, back to my point. When all your selfies just start looking the same and you can’t choose one, turn to your BFF for approval, or any friend who will listen.
Choosing a filter can actually be one of the most stressful things in any 20 something girl’s life but luckily Instacademy has already posted about VSCO cam and how Instagram filters suck. Here it is in case you missed it: Click me!
Goes without saying, all good selfies have a filter and if they don’t they’re getting hashtagged #NoFilter because that’s how rare it is not to have one.
Caption is Key
Okay, this may be one of the most important aspects of your selfie. Consider it like the thesis of your essay, the Kim to your Kanye, the… okay you get it – it’s important.
Here are some caption ideas in case you’re lacking creativity:
- ANY Drake lyric
- Actually any song lyric really
- Here’s an actual list – yes this exists (scroll down when you click the link it’s somewhere on that page)
- If it’s TBT, TGIF, MCM or any other Instagram day of the week use that as your caption
- A quote
- Refer to Kim Kardashian’s Instagram for inspiration
While were on this topic, don’t include too many hashtags, 2 or 3 is acceptable.
- This video is on point
- The song lyrics are especially on point
- Use snapchat to take selfies
- Ask for a friend’s approval
- Use VSCO cam for filters
