Unless you’re Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian or Beyonce this is not good news. Instagram announced that they may introduce a new way of calculating what shows up on your news feed. It’s called an algorithm (al-go-rhythm). Basically what this means is that the posts on your timeline with the most action will appear at the top of your feed instead of the most recent posts just like irrelevant Facebook does. There are many things wrong with this and we’ll go through why everyone is freaking the hell out. Facebook owns Instagram and Facebook is for old people so unless they want Instagram to follow in it’s father’s footsteps this better be some early April fools joke.
Why This Sucks for Normal Humans
First of all, it’s already hard out here for a pimp, when he trying to get the money for the rent aka it’s already hard to get over 50 likes and now IG just made things even worse. When you post something on IG your followers might not necessarily see it when they’re scrolling through their feed. Instead, they will see the posts on their feed that are getting the most engagement/action/likes.
You know that feeling you get when you’re scrolling through Instagram, that FOMO you feel until you finally reach the last photo you saw when you were scrolling through 10 mins ago, yeah that feeling will now become permanent. Things won’t be in chronological order anymore so how the hell do you know where you left off and when you’ve seen all there is to see in the last 10 mins?
From what we’ve seen so far, companies are advising their followers to turn on notifications for their posts to ensure you don’t miss any of their posts but like that’s annoying. Obviously you’re going to turn on notifications for your best friend and your boyfriend if you haven’t already so you can comment some stupid shit like “first like” but being required to do something is annoying. I’m required to do things all day at work I don’t want that to continue in my social life.
No one asked for this type of nonsense and literally the only reason we post stuff on Instagram is to get likes and if people aren’t even going to see our cute Fall pics in our Hunters or our grande mocha frappy skinny something or other than what’s the point of this app #RIPInstagram thank you for ruining my life.
